2010-2011 THEATRE SEASON

Join Valpo Department of Theatre for another exciting season of theatrical productions!

This year, the mainstage season begins with Almost, Maine by John Cariani, a production full of unexpected love stories. This snow-bound production will be followed by Moliere's most famous play, the comedy Tartuffe. The plot centers around a religious hypocrite as he attempts to cheat a man and his family out of their earthly posessions for his own devious ends.

In the spring, VU Dance Ensemble will present their 12th annual performance, which will incorporate students, professionals and locals who lend their creativity to the stage to create a collage of dance. The fourth production of the season, The Universal Wolf, is a darkly humorous version of Little Red Riding Hood, with a postmodern twist. It is not appropriate for children.

The season will conclude with Floyd Collins, a musical based on the true story of a Kentucky caver who is trapped while exploing Sand Cave in the winter of 1925. The music of Floyd Collins sets the scene of raw human emotion that surrounds a cast of characters dealing with imminent tragedy.

In addition to these mainstage offerings, the Theatre Department will also feature a wide variety of outreach performances and student-driven projects throughout the year, including the touring children’s play, Taradiddle Tales, the audience-interactive production of Keeping Up, Shakespeare Under the Stars, the Acting/Directing Showcase and a 1-2-3-4-5 production. It promises to be a wonderful year and we hope that you will join us.
