2012 Open Enrollment News

November 1 - November 30, 2011

If you are planning to make a benefit election change, do not miss the November 30, 2011, deadline.  This is the time for faculty and staff to change benefit elections, enroll in benefits, add dependents, and to elect flexible spending accounts for the 2012 calendar year.

Open Enrollment is online this year

Step One:

Please review the following materials carefully before making your 2012 benefit selections:

Step 2:

Go to secure.healthx.com/Valparaiso.aspx to complete your Flexible Spending elections and/or Health Insurance changes.

If you need to change health plans, add a dependent, or drop a dependent: you must complete the online enrollment, including the names and information for any dependent you wish to be covered by the plan.  The information you provide will override what is currently on file with UnitedHeathcare.

If you plan to keep your current health insurance coverage, you do not need to re-enroll.   Your current selections will roll-over into 2012.

If you wish to elect a Health Care or Dependent Care Flexible Spending account: you must make your annual election online (no paper forms are available).  Please note: you may make a flexible spending election without having to re-enroll in health insurance.

New for 2012!

One of the new developments for 2012 is the addition of Health Advocate to the offering of benefits.  All Valpo employees (whether enrolled in a health plan or not) will have their own Personal Health Advocate—a trained professional, typically a Registered Nurse, who can assist with health issues or by helping navigate the waters of health plan administration.  The program is designed to help you find out more about a health condition or a diagnosis, find the right doctor or specialist for treatment, resolve insurance billing and claim issues, assist with elder care and Medicare issues, and much more!

This new benefit will be available beginning January 1, 2012.

“Now That You’ve Enrolled”, a brochure that provides information on using United Healthcare’s Health Plan features and tools, is also available.   This resource has been designed with hyperlinks to allow the user to quickly find topics of interest within the document and link to UHC's online resources.
