University governance reflects campus-wide involvement. Through the University Council, Faculty Senate and the Student Senate, faculty, staff, administrators and students share in the development of University policy, including academic programs. The Student Senate is specifically empowered by the Instrument for Internal Governance of the University with executive, legislative and judicial powers over the student body. The Student Senate affords students the opportunity to assume the privileges and responsibilities of self-government. It also coordinates the major committees of Media, Residences, Union Board, Finance and Administration.
